In short

Event sign maker

An event sign tells guests where they are and where to go: a welcome sign, a guestbook or gifts table sign, a Reserved card or a direction sign. This tool sets your words as large as they fit on one A4 or A3 sheet, or on a folded table tent that reads from both sides.

How to make it

  1. Type the main words, and a small line above or below if you want one, such as Welcome to the wedding of, the couple's names and the date.
  2. Choose a flat sign on A4 or A3, portrait or landscape, or a folded table tent, then a border, an arrow if the sign points the way, the lettering and a colour.
  3. Press Make it and print at 100% (actual size). Frame the sign, mount it on foam board for an easel, or fold the tent card along the dashed line.

How it prints

The main words are set first, as large as they fit on up to three lines, and the lines above and below are kept to well under half their size so the sign always reads main words first. Lettering is drawn as shapes rather than typed text, so it prints crisp on any printer. A flat sign fills one sheet: A4 is 297 by 210 mm and A3 is 420 by 297 mm, either way up. A3 is twice the area of A4 and needs A3 paper or a print shop; the sheet says so in its footer. A folded table tent is a landscape A4 sheet folded in half along a dashed line, each side 297 by 105 mm, with the back printed upside down so the words read the right way up from both sides of a table.

There are four borders: a single rounded line, a double line, a fine frame with cut-in corners and a small diamond in each corner, or none. An arrow is drawn as one bold shape: on a wide sign a left or right arrow sits beside the words, and on a tall sign it takes its own space below them; an up arrow, for straight on, sits above. Each sign is one colour, or black for printing on coloured or kraft card. Everything stays at least 10 mm inside the paper edge, so a home printer does not clip the border.

Questions

Questions people ask

What size will my sign print at?

An A4 sign is 297 by 210 mm and an A3 sign is 420 by 297 mm, either way up. A table tent is one landscape A4 sheet folded in half, so each side is 297 by 105 mm. Print at 100% or actual size, not fit to page.

Can I print an A3 sign on a home printer?

Only if the printer takes A3 paper. Otherwise download the PDF and ask a print shop or a supermarket photo desk to print it on A3 card. Most can also enlarge an A3 sign to A2 or A1 for an easel at the venue.

How do I make a sign that points the way?

Choose an arrow: left, right, up for straight on, or down. On a landscape sign a left or right arrow sits beside the words; on a portrait sign it sits below them. Make one sign for each turn, so guests never have to guess.

How does the folded tent card work?

Fold the landscape A4 sheet along the dashed line in the middle so the printing is on the outside. The back half is printed upside down, so once folded both sides read the right way up. It suits Reserved signs and small table signs.

Can I match the sign to my wedding colours?

Choose a single colour: sage, navy, berry, gold, charcoal and forest green suit most wedding stationery. Gold prints as a warm mustard rather than metallic. For a metallic look, choose black and print on gold or silver card.
