About this version

Most weddings and big birthdays have a table near the entrance for cards and presents, and without a sign guests hover, unsure whether to leave a gift or hand it over. This version prints Cards and gifts as the main words, set as large as they fit across a landscape sheet in classic display lettering, then a short rule with a diamond and the line Thank you for sharing our day. There is no small line at the top, so the main words take most of the space. The sign is navy throughout, inside a fine double frame with cut-in corners and a small diamond in each corner.

The sheet is A4 landscape, 297 mm wide and 210 mm tall. Landscape suits a gift table because the sign can sit in a frame or lean against the card box without blocking it, and the words are wide enough to read from across a room.

Change the line underneath to suit the day. Some couples ask for gifts in a particular way, and the sign is a polite place to say it: Cards and gifts with a line such as Your presence is our present, or Cards here please, gifts to the hall table. For a birthday, try Cards and presents. For a leaving do or a retirement, the same layout works as Cards for Sue. Navy, sage, berry, gold and charcoal are the colours most people use for weddings; choose black for printing on kraft or coloured card.

Print at 100% on card and stand it in an A4 landscape frame, or fix it to the front of a card post box with double-sided tape. Put the table somewhere it can be watched, near the top table or a family member, rather than by an open door. Ask someone to take the cards and gifts home at the end of the night, and keep the sign with them so nothing gets thrown away with the decorations.
