Gym notice boards members read between sets

Members see the walls every visit. A timetable they can trust, a short list of house rules and a board that celebrates their progress do more than another poster of a sprinter.

In short

Gym notice boards and signs

A gym or studio needs a class timetable on A3 by the entrance, an A4 house rules sign by the equipment (wipe down, re-rack weights, share at busy times), a leaderboard members can update, staffed hours on the door, and bold lettering for one feature wall. Laminate anything near equipment and fix signs with screws or strong strips.

What to make

What a gym usually needs

  1. A class timetable

Days across the top, times down the side, with the class, the instructor and the room. Update it the day a class changes; members stop trusting a timetable that is wrong once.

  2. House rules

Wipe down after use, re-rack your weights, share equipment at busy times, no phones on the gym floor. Four or five short lines get followed; a page of rules does not.

  3. A challenge or leaderboard board

This month's rowing challenge, a 100-day attendance streak, new members this week. Members write their own entries, which builds a sense of a club rather than a facility.

  4. Staffed hours and contacts

When staff are on site, how to get help out of hours and where the first aid kit and defibrillator are, if you have one. Put it by the door and the reception desk.

  5. Wall lettering

One word or the gym's name in large letters on the feature wall, where members take photos. It is free advertising on every post.

  6. Events and offers

Open days, bring a friend weeks, charity challenges and new classes on an event sign by the entrance, dated and taken down when finished.

Questions

Questions people ask

What should go on a gym notice board?

The class timetable, house rules, staffed hours, upcoming events and a members' challenge or leaderboard. Keep them in separate sections with headers and remove anything out of date.

What are common gym house rules?

Wipe down equipment after use, return weights to the rack, share machines at busy times, wear suitable footwear, and follow staff instructions. Keep the list short and phrase it politely.

Can I print my own safety signs for gym equipment?

General reminders are fine, but use the manufacturer's instructions for how to use each machine safely. For fire exits and first aid, use standard safety signs rather than designed ones.

How do I get members to use a leaderboard?

Make it easy and visible: a laminated board near reception, a pen on a string, a simple monthly challenge and a small reward. Staff adding the first few entries helps.
