About this version

Congratulations is a long word for a banner: 15 letters, so 15 flags. On large flags it would need 15 sheets of card and more than 3 m of wall, which is more than most celebrations need. This preset prints it on small square flags instead, four to a portrait A4 sheet, so the whole word fits on four sheets and hangs about 1.6 m long. That is the right size for a buffet table, a desk at work, the front of a cake stand or across a doorway.

Square flags give the letter the most room, so even at 8.8 by 12.4 cm each capital stands about 6 cm tall and reads clearly from the far side of a room. The letters are set in the classic display face, a plain, upright style that suits an office leaving do or a results day as well as a family party. The flags run through WallKiwi's bright mix of coral, sunshine yellow, kiwi green, sky blue, lilac and berry.

Congratulations covers a lot of occasions: exam results, a graduation, passing a driving test, a new job or a promotion, an engagement, a new home, a new baby, or finishing a marathon. Add the reason after the word, such as Congratulations Sam or Congratulations graduate, and the tool adds a star between the words and the extra flags. Watch the sheet count as the words grow.

Small flags are quick to cut, but they are light, so print them on card if you can and thread them on thin ribbon or baker's twine rather than heavy string. If the banner will be outside, such as on a garden gate for a wedding party, choose medium flags and laminate them; small paper flags will not survive a breeze. For an office, black and white printed on coloured card is cheap and looks deliberate.
