This name banner spells Isla Rose on large scalloped flags in soft pastels with dark lettering in rounded lower case, with a star between the names. Each flag is 18 by 25 cm, one to a portrait A4 sheet, so a short name fills a nursery wall above the cot without overwhelming it.

A name banner above the cot or the changing table is one of the most common things people make for a new nursery, and it is often made before the baby arrives, once the name is settled. This preset spells Isla Rose on large scalloped flags with a rounded bottom edge, in WallKiwi's soft pastels: pale coral, pale yellow, pale green, pale blue and pale lilac, each with a deeper edge in its own colour. The letters are dark green, set in rounded lower case, which looks gentler than capitals on a nursery wall, apart from the capital first letter of each name as you typed it.
Large flags are 18 cm wide and 25 cm tall, one to a portrait A4 sheet. A four-letter first name, a star and a four-letter middle name come to nine flags and about 1.8 m of string, which suits the width of a cot or a chest of drawers. A long name or two middle names can get wide quickly, so check the length the tool shows before you print; for a narrow wall, switch to medium flags and the same name comes in at about 1.3 m.
Type the baby's own name in place of Isla Rose. If you would rather have capitals, tick Print in capitals. For a gender-neutral room the pastels work as they are; for a single colour, choose One colour and then a soft shade such as sage or lilac, with white flags and a coloured edge.
Safety matters more in a nursery than anywhere else. Hang the banner well out of reach of the cot, at least a metre above the mattress, and fix both ends firmly so nothing can fall in. Use card rather than paper so the flags do not curl, and avoid long loose ends of string or ribbon. Many families keep the flags afterwards: a card banner folds flat into a memory box with the hospital bracelet and the first photographs.
