In short

Herb and spice lid labels

This sheet prints 24 small round lid labels at 40 mm, the size of most spice and herb jar lids, in solid forest green with white rounded lettering. The set runs from basil, bay and chives through cumin, paprika and turmeric to allspice and pepper, so a drawer of jars reads at a glance from above.

About this version

In a drawer, you see the tops of your jars, not the sides, so a label on the lid is the one that does the work. This version prints one full A4 sheet of 24 round labels, each 40 mm across, four across and six down. The herbs and spices are Basil, Bay, Chives, Dill, Mint, Oregano, Parsley, Rosemary, Sage, Thyme, Tarragon, Cumin, Coriander, Paprika, Turmeric, Ginger, Nutmeg, Cinnamon, Cloves, Chilli, Fennel, Mustard, Allspice and Pepper. Each label is solid forest green with the name in white rounded lettering, which reads clearly against a dark lid or a wooden one.

To make your own set, type your jars one to a line. The labels are small, so one word reads best; longer names are lettered smaller to fit. A second line after a | works, such as Cumin | Seeds, but keep it short. If your lids are larger, choose 50 mm. If solid colour uses too much ink, choose Border for white labels with a fine green double line, or choose the bright mix so herbs and spices are easier to tell apart.

Sort the drawer alphabetically once the lids are labelled and keep it that way: refills go back in their place, and you can see what has run out. If you buy spices in large bags and refill the jars, keep the matching side label too, or add the date you filled the jar on the base. Dried herbs lose colour and smell within a year; when the label looks brighter than the herb, it is time for a new jar.

Print at 100% on sticker paper. Cut the sheet into squares along the dashed lines, then round each circle; a 40 mm circle cutter or a craft punch makes quick work of 24. Check one against a lid before cutting the rest. Peel and press from the middle out.
