About this version

At a wedding breakfast the place cards do two jobs: they show each guest where to sit, and they tell the waiting staff what each person ordered. This set does both. Each card has a small sprig of leaves at the top, the guest's name in classic lettering, and their meal choice in smaller lettering underneath, all in sage green, on both halves of the card so the name reads from both sides once it is folded. The twelve sample guests run from Charlotte Ainsworth (Beef) to Nathaniel Cartwright-Hughes (Beef), with fish and vegetarian choices in between.

Each card is 90 mm wide and 110 mm tall flat, with a dotted fold line across the middle, so it stands as a tent 90 by 55 mm on each side. Four cards print on a portrait A4 sheet, butted together so one cut serves two cards, and the sheet header states the size. Twelve cards take three sheets. Most names in the set print at the same size; the longest, such as Nathaniel Cartwright-Hughes, shrink a little to stay on one line.

Type your own guests one per line, with the meal choice after a bar: Ruth Evans | Fish. Use the course the caterer needs to know, such as the main course, or a dietary note such as Gluten free or Nut allergy, which matters far more than the colour of a card. For a plainer card, choose the fine border or no decoration; for a softer look, the small heart. Sage suits most wedding flowers, and navy, berry, gold and charcoal are the other usual choices.

Print at 100% on ivory or white card of 250 gsm. Cut the sheets along the dashed lines with a paper trimmer, then fold each card with the printing outside, scoring along the dotted line first. Sort the cards by table in the order the table plan lists them and put each table's pile in a labelled envelope. Give the caterer a copy of the meal choices too, in case a card goes missing.
