About this version

Place cards at a dinner party are less about finding a seat and more about the host deciding who sits next to whom, so the shy guest is beside the friendly one and the couple who argue are at opposite ends. These cards are simple on purpose. Each prints a first name in WallKiwi's handwriting lettering, a soft, written style that looks as if you wrote it yourself, in charcoal on white, with no border and no motif. The eight sample guests are Hannah, Tom, Priya, Callum, Ffion, Marcus, Aisha and Rob.

Each card is 90 mm wide and 110 mm tall flat and folds across the middle into a tent 90 by 55 mm on each side, with the name on both halves so it reads from across the table. Four cards print on a portrait A4 sheet, so eight guests take two sheets. Short first names print large, about as tall as the card allows, and every name in the set is the same size unless one is much longer than the rest.

Type your own guests, one per line. First names are friendlier at a dinner party; add a surname only where two guests share a first name. For a birthday dinner, add a small heart or star; for a supper club or a book club, the fine border looks neat. Charcoal goes with any table setting, but a single colour that matches your napkins or flowers is a nice touch. A second line after a bar can carry a dietary note for whoever is cooking: Priya | Vegetarian.

Print at 100% on card. Cut along the dashed lines and fold along the dotted line, scoring first so each card stands straight. Lay the table with the cards before the guests arrive, and resist moving them around once people start sitting down. Kraft card or recycled grey board looks good with this plain style, printed in black.
