A church notice board is often the first thing a visitor reads, in the porch, the vestibule or the hall, and it has to work for regulars looking for this week's rota as well as someone who has come in for the first time. This set prints a Welcome banner in classic navy capitals 15 cm tall. Each of the seven letters prints on its own A4 landscape sheet inside a band with a navy rule along its top and bottom edge, and the seven bands butt together into a strip about 1.3 m long. Six section headers follow on three more sheets: Services, Notices, Prayer requests, Rotas, Groups and activities, and Contacts, each a white strip 27.7 by 9 cm with a thick navy outline and navy lettering. That is ten sheets in all.
Change the words to suit the building and the people who use it. Many boards want a header for the parish or community magazine, the flower rota, baptisms and weddings, the food bank collection, safeguarding contacts or a hall booking line. Type one per line and the tool lettering stays the same size across the set. If Welcome is too long for your board, 10 cm letters fit two or three to a sheet and the banner comes in at about 90 cm. Navy and classic capitals suit most churches and chapels; berry or forest green work well where the board already has a coloured frame.
Keep the board tidy and current: a header for out-of-date notices tends to collect them. Put the services header where people pass at eye height, and keep the prayer requests section low enough to write on if you pin up a card and a pen. Safeguarding and contact details are best near the door, where they can be read without walking into the building.
Print at 100% on white card, cut each banner letter out on its dashed outline and lay them on a table in order before pinning. Butt each band hard against the last so the navy rules run on without a gap. Brass drawing pins at the corners look smarter than coloured ones. The outlined headers use little ink, so they are cheap to reprint when a section changes.
