This plan hangs twelve small frames for 10 x 15 cm (4 x 6 inch) prints in landscape, four across and three down, 3 cm apart. Each frame is 18 x 13 cm outside with its 1.5 cm border, so the wall is 81 cm wide and 45 cm tall, and the twelve templates print two to a sheet.

Prints of 10 by 15 cm, the standard 4 by 6 inch photo size, are the cheapest way to fill a wall with pictures, and a grid of twelve makes a lively display in a kitchen, a hallway or a teenager's bedroom. This version hangs twelve small frames in landscape, four across and three down, with a 3 cm gap. Small photo frames hold a 10 by 15 cm print but have a border of about 1.5 cm, so the frame edge is set to 1.5 cm and each template is the outside size, 18 by 13 cm. The whole wall is 81 cm wide and 45 cm tall, drawn at 1:5 on the plan. With its centre 145 cm above the floor and a 2 cm hanger drop, the nails sit 165.5 cm, 149.5 cm and 133.5 cm above the floor, at 9 cm, 30 cm, 51 cm and 72 cm from the left edge. The templates print two to a sheet: seven sheets with the plan.
Measure one of your own frames before you print. Lay a ruler across the front and measure the whole width and height, then subtract 15 and 10 cm and halve the difference: that is the frame edge to type in. If your prints are portrait, turn the frames round and the grid becomes taller and narrower. For a smaller space, the row of three or the grid of four layouts work with the same frames.
Frames this light hang well on small picture hooks or even strong removable adhesive strips, which saves twelve holes in a rented flat. Check the strip packet for the weight it holds and use a strip on each lower corner as well, so the frames sit flat. Choose a mix of photographs with a common thread, such as one place or one year, and arrange the strongest pictures at the corners and the middle.
Print at 100% and cut along each outline. Tape the top row of templates up first, level, and use a 3 cm strip of card to space the rest. Mark each crosshair with a pencil through the paper before you take the template down.
