An alphabetical seating chart is the quickest way for a large number of guests to find their seat. Instead of reading every table to look for their own name, a guest goes straight to their surname, reads the table number and walks in, so a queue never builds in front of the easel. This version lists every guest from the eight-table, 64-guest sample plan, sorted by surname, the last word of each name, under letter headings from B for Barnard and Boateng to Y for Yates. Each line has the guest's name on the left, their table in bold on the right, and a dotted line between to guide the eye.
The poster is A3 portrait, 297 by 420 mm, framed with a fine double navy line, with Find your seat in large classic lettering and Amy and Joe, Saturday 14 June 2026 underneath. The list runs in three columns of even length, with names at 14.5 pt, and a letter heading never sits alone at the bottom of a column. A letter with no guests, such as A here, is simply left out. On A3 paper or enlarged to A2 or A1 at a print shop, the list reads easily from the front of a small crowd.
Type the plan by table, exactly as you would for a table-by-table chart: each table's name on its own line ending in a colon, then its guests. The tool sorts everyone for you, so you can move a guest between tables and the A to Z list updates itself. For couples who share a surname, both names appear one after another. Guests listed as Mr and Mrs, or as Grandma Joan, are filed under their last word, so check those once.
An A to Z chart suits weddings of 80 guests or more, conferences and gala dinners, and any event where guests do not know each other's table. Many couples print two: this list at the door and a by-table plan inside. Print at 100% on A3 card, or enlarge it on foam board at a print shop. Check the spelling of every surname, because a guest who cannot find themselves under the right letter will ask an usher.
