In short

Sale sign

This sign prints SALE in huge white rounded capitals on a solid coral band across the top half of an A3 portrait sheet. Under it, in large black lettering, it reads Up to 50% off everything in store, and below that, in coral, Saturday 4 to Sunday 12 October. A3 is 29.7 by 42 cm, read from across a street.

About this version

A sale sign has one job: to make someone walking past stop and look in the window. This preset is built for a shop window rather than a door, so it prints on A3, 29.7 by 42 cm, twice the area of A4. The word SALE is set in white rounded capitals as large as it will go on a solid coral band across the top of the sheet, inside a thin coral frame. Below the band, the offer line Up to 50% off everything in store prints in black, held to a little over half the size of SALE so the order of reading is clear, and the dates, Saturday 4 to Sunday 12 October, print in coral underneath.

Type your own offer: 20% off, 3 for 2, Everything £5, Half price or Closing down. Replace SALE with another single word, such as CLEARANCE, OFFERS or NEW, and the tool letters it as large as it fits. Leave the dates out if the sale runs until stock goes, or use the line for something like Today only. Coral is the colour most people read as a sale; berry and charcoal look more upmarket for a boutique or a gift shop.

In a window, place the sign at eye height for an adult on the pavement, not on the floor, and repeat it in a second window if you have one. A sale sign works best with a little space round it, so take other notices down while the sale is on. If you price items individually, the price tag maker prints matching was and now tickets.

Print at actual size. Most home printers only take A4, so save the PDF and print it at a print shop or library, or choose A4 in the tool for a door. Solid coral uses a lot of ink, so print one first to check the colour. Tape the sign to the inside of the window facing out, with tape on all four corners so it does not curl in the heat of the glass.
