Salon price lists clients understand before they sit down

A clear price list at reception and in the window saves awkward conversations at the till. Add the booking policy, tags on retail products and lettering that says what kind of salon you are.

In short

Salon price lists and signs

A salon should display a service price list at reception and in the window (A4 or A3, grouped by service with from prices explained), opening hours on the door, an A5 booking and cancellation policy, and price tags on every retail product. Print on 300 gsm card, frame the price list and reprint whenever prices change.

What to make

What a salon usually needs

  1. A service price list

Grouped by service, such as cut and finish, colour, treatments, nails, with a price or a from price for each. Say what affects a from price, such as hair length or stylist level.

  2. A booking and cancellation policy

Deposits, notice needed to cancel or move an appointment and what happens if a client is late. A framed copy at reception backs up what you send in booking confirmations.

  3. Retail price tags

A tag or shelf card for every product on sale, with the name, size and price. Clients browse the shelf while they wait and many will not ask.

  4. Opening hours

On the door and by the phone, with late nights and how to book online. Clients walking past after closing often book from that sign.

  5. Window lettering

The salon name or a single line such as walk-ins welcome, in letters that match your brand. It tells passers-by what you do before they read anything else.

Questions

Questions people ask

What should a salon price list include?

Every service grouped by type, the price or a from price, what the price includes, and what changes a from price, such as hair length or stylist level. Add the date so staff know which list is current.

Should a salon display prices in the window?

Many do, as it brings in clients who would not phone to ask. A shorter list of the most popular services in the window, with the full list inside, keeps it readable.

What should a salon cancellation policy say?

How much notice you need to cancel or move an appointment, any deposit and when it is kept, and what happens if a client is late or does not arrive. Keep it short and the same as your online booking terms.

How do I explain from prices fairly?

State what the price includes and what can increase it, and offer a consultation or quote before the service starts. Clients mind surprises at the till more than the price itself.
