About this version
A garden barbecue or a summer party goes more smoothly when guests can see what is coming off the grill, what is vegetarian and where the drinks are. This preset prints a relaxed party menu on one A4 portrait sheet in the chalkboard style: a dark charcoal panel with a thin cream frame, Summer BBQ in large playful cream lettering, and Help yourself and come back for seconds underneath. Four headings in pale coral follow. From the grill lists beef burgers, pork sausages from the local butcher, chicken skewers with lemon, garlic and oregano, and halloumi and pepper kebabs marked vegetarian. Sides lists corn on the cob, coleslaw, new potato salad and green salad. Something sweet lists Eton mess and watermelon slices, and Drinks lists homemade lemonade and the cool box. That is 12 items, set centred because none has a price.
Type your own food and title: Garden party, Street party, Jubilee picnic, Summer fete or a name and an age all work. For a charity barbecue or a club fundraiser with prices, add = £ prices and the menu switches to dotted leaders with prices on the right. Playful lettering and coral suit a family party; classic lettering and sage look calmer for a grown-up evening.
Mark vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free food clearly in the description, and keep raw and cooked food apart on the table. If children are coming, list a plain option such as a plain sausage in a bun. A menu also helps whoever is on the grill keep track of what is still to cook.
The chalkboard uses a lot of dark ink, so print one copy on card and slip it into a plastic sleeve or a clip frame, since a garden table means sauce and drinks. Stand it on an easel or tape it to the front of the serving table. For a long table, print a second copy for the far end, or choose A3 for a sign by the gate.
