Print 30 cm house numbers to trace onto a garage door, shed or outbuilding, each tiled over two A4 sheets with glue strips. Free A4 PDF.
2 characters, 30 cm tall, on 4 sheets
Outlines to trace onto the surface and paint inside. Spaced as the lettering sets them, the whole thing is about 45 cm wide. 2 of the characters are bigger than a sheet, so each prints across several with a 1 cm glue strip.

This template prints the number 16 as classic outline numerals 30 cm tall, for a garage door, a shed or an outbuilding. Each numeral is bigger than an A4 sheet, so it prints across two sheets with a 1 cm glue strip: four sheets in all, and about 45 cm wide together.

Garage doors, sheds, barns and workshops are seen from further away than a front door, so their numbers need to be big. This preset prints the number 16 at 30 cm tall in the classic style, plain and upright, which reads clearly across a yard or a car park. A 30 cm numeral is taller than the printable area of an A4 sheet, so each one prints across two A4 sheets with a 1 cm glue strip, named A1 and B1: four sheets for the two numerals. Trim the top margin from the lower sheet, lay it over the glue strip of the upper one so the outline lines up, and glue it down. Each assembled piece has a baseline and a top line exactly 30 cm apart, and the whole number is about 45 cm wide.
Type your own number, or a unit letter for a block of garages or workshops. If 30 cm is more than the door needs, 25 cm still reads well from the street and fits on fewer sheets for narrow numerals. On a door with horizontal ribs, choose a height that spans whole panels so the number does not sit awkwardly across a groove.
On a metal garage door, wash and degrease the surface, rub it lightly with fine abrasive paper and paint with an exterior paint made for metal. On a timber shed, use an exterior wood paint or a fence paint in a colour that stands out from the stain. Fix the paper pieces with masking tape along a level baseline, then trace with graphite paper or by rubbing soft pencil on the back. The outlines are trace templates: the holes in 6, 8, 9 and 0 are closed shapes.
Large numbers are best painted with a 2 to 3 cm flat brush for the straight strokes and a smaller round brush for the curves. Mask the straight edges with low-tack tape. Two thin coats are better than one heavy one, which can run on a vertical door, and you need a dry day with no rain for a few hours.
